About Us

New Consumer is a website, a magazine, and a means to help you use your purchase power!

We were established by award-winning social entrepreneur Mel Young (Big Issue in Scotland, Homeless World Cup) in 2002 to celebrate the growing fair trade movement, and we now cover everything from local food to electric scooters.

For New Consumer, future-proof consumption means ethics AND quality – we’re heartened to see more and more products hit the market that aren’t just sustainably produced but are bright, fun and fabulous too!

New Consumer is based in Edinburgh, with fans across the UK, Europe and the world.

Published twelve times a year, New Consumer magazine is the UK’s ONLY free ethical living publication.
