A lighter look at greener living
Sometimes being green can seem so exhausting. Enter Sarah Gibb, 35-year-old London-based illustrator, and her range of gently satirical green-themed greeting cards called Eco-Chic, designed to bring a large smile to your face.
Printed on FSC-certified recycled paper and sold in corn starch sleeves the 12 cards in the range so far feature women saving water by bathing with their other half, recycling old lovers and boyfriends in large coloured containers and conserving energy by taking it easy on the back of a tandem bicycle while their boyfriend does all the hard work.
“The characters I draw identify with the amusing and sometimes quirky way women view the world and behave in certain situations,” explains Gibb. “My inspiration comes from the media, and also my own experience of life and the world we live in. It’s also about picking up on sound bites that have become more commonplace and subverting them with the illustration.”
Humour is a very human condition says Gibb and there is room for it in every situation. Having said that she firmly believes that sustainable living is going to be at the top of all of our agendas for generations to come.
Gibb’s favourite card shows two women eating large portions of cake with the strapline ‘It's ok, it's organic!’ “Something I do all the time,” she laughs. She’s also very fond of 'Green house gases' in which two women are seen gossiping away in a greenhouse. She is working on some new cards to add to the range and is “keen to hear any suggestions that people might have!”
