Charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), who campaign for clean, safe recreational water, free from sewage effluents, toxic chemicals, nuclear waste and marine litter, are calling on members of the public to help with their 'SAS Making Beaches Barefoot Friendly' campaign at the end of the month. Volunteers from across the country are being called upon to help clean up some of the nation’s best loved beaches, including: Porthtowan (July 28), Porthcrawl (July 29), Bournemouth (July 30), Brighton (July 31), Cromer (August 1) and Tynemouth (August 2).

SAS promises a fun-packed, as well as educational, day. The afternoon starts off with a full introduction and briefing session, and after donning gloves and getting down to some serious beach cleaning volunteers will be treated to a delicious free BBQ on the beach. Further entertainment is provided for those who want to stay on after at The Blue Bar (Porthtowan), Jolly Sailor (Newton), Bar Vin (Bournemouth), Nivea Sun Yellowave Beach Sports Venue (Brighton), The Wellington Hotel (Cromer) or The Turk’s Head (Tynemouth).

Andy Cummins, campaign officer for SAS said, 'Marine litter is a huge problem on beaches all over the country and by its very definition, we are responsible for this marine litter in the marine environment. This tour gives beach-lovers a great opportunity to make a real and very positive difference on their local beach! It's really important that people take an interest but it's also really important that people have fun doing it. The beach cleans we organise are really enjoyable, educational and are a great way to bring local people from all walks of life together. Everyone is welcome so come on down and make a difference to your local area.”
