Quail’s Cowhide Hip Satchel
This hip satchel is big enough to bung in your usual handbag stuff, plus a couple of books and odds and ends while retaining its shape and looking stylish.
Traditionally handcrafted in Scotland, Quail has teamed up with a leatherworker who uses deerskins collected from gamedealers who produce venison. Being ‘ponyskin’, meaning the hair is kept on the leather, this tactile bag has attracted interest about what it’s made from. All the skins are traceable and come from estates using registered stalkers, monitored by the Deer Commission for Scotland, which accepts stalking as an accepted practice in sustainable management of species of wild deer. As a by-product of venison, utilising the skins also reduces waste going to landfill.
The ponyskin means each bag is unique and the more I use it the more I like it, and it has quickly taken the position of my daily handbag.
The style fits in with this season’s fashion trends, particularly if teamed with a beach dress and strappy sandals, adjust the strap so it hangs down below the hem of your dress to emphasise its size.
Cost: £65
